so does this run in place of winzip or the xp unzip? what’s the basic motivation to download it and use it instead?
Yes, it is a substitute for those. The XP unzip doesn’t handle all of the formats that this one does (I often need to expand .tar files or .tgz files even in Windows). Also, winzip is shareware, although many people treat it as freeware.
